13th Nov. John MacDonald

John painted a beach scene seen through trees and branches . It was a difficult painting to complete in 2hours. But John managed it . He also brought his sketch books with him and we all enjoyed looking at them . Some of his sketches were terrific. Thank you John for an enjoyable night.

Oct 2nd Elaine Johnstone

An enjoyable night with Elaine Johnston from Sorn. She painted a stag in Acrylics . She also quickly painted a cow’s head ( all in 2hours). She donated the 2nd painting to the club to be raffled on our Christmas night. Many thanks Elaine for an informative night and her generosity. It’ll be raffled on 18th Dec for club funds.

Enrolment night 2017

Enrolment night was 4th Sept at kilmarnock Academy 7 pm. We were shocked and saddened by the sudden death of Mike Evans soon after we closed in April. Mike was a supportive and helpful member of our club for many years . He was a past president and treasurer. We will miss him.

2016/2017 Abridged version

This is another abridge version of our year 2016-2017.
Enrolment night was Sept. 5th.
Drawing workshop with Laura Coventry was good with many members taking part. We did a quick drawing session the week before for members who weren’t too sure about proportions etc. Fiona Burley was the model . Thanks Fiona. This is a successful night and will be repeated next year.
Julie Smith did a demo in acrylics -very enjoyable .Laura Scoular’s demo was in pastels of a cockerel. Good one Laura.
Unfortunately Vikki Hastings couldn’t manage to do her demo.
Crit night was in house with Matt Cairns and Mike Evans providing the advice and help. .
Christmas night with raffle and sales table was again successful. Thanks to everyone who contributed to raffle, sales and the wonderful buffet on Dec. 19th.
Our Competition night was on March 20th with a great selection of paintings for David Reid and Laura Coventry to judge and pick out the winners.
Our A.G.M. Was on 27th March and evening meal on April 27 was at Fenwick Hotel. Excellent meal and great company.Thanks to Fenwick Hotel staff for great service and good food.
Enrolment night will be Sept 4th 2017

2015-2016. ( March)

This is an abridged version of our year 2015-2016, with a selection of photos taken throughout the year from Sept.- March.

Tom Rennie finished his last demo with glazes. Jim Orr did a super still life.John MacDonald a very good landscape and Madhumatti Manda a blue bell wood -all were good. Madhu showed us different ways of tackling acrylics- baby wipes ,scrubbing brushes ,etc etc. Drawing workshop with Laura Coventry -final drawing in Burns costume.
Christmas Night: sales table ,raffle and buffet very successful .Many thanks to David Buckell( malt whisky ) jean Butter( hamper ) for the raffle and to everyone who contributed .

Competition night : judges Helen Turner ( artist) Clair Fullarton( Kilmarnock standard editor). Winner of Derry Martin cup ( Helen Turner) was Leila Neil, runner up Bob MacBride. Winner of Halifax cup ( members’ choice) Ian Hamilton runner up Jim Clark. Winner of Centenary cup( Clair Fullarton) Christine Anderson, runner up Jeanette Maccreath- many thanks to all who contributed paintings (49). Well done winners and runners up.

Presentation of portrait to East Ayrshire’s Provost Jim Todd. The Provost came to be a model at our portraiture section .It very quickly developed into an official portrait Ian Hamilton was selected to do it and in 2weeks produced a superb painting . This was presented to our Provost on competition night.I can safely say Provost Todd was delighted with it. He donated the notional cost of framing it to his chosen charity. A great night with good buffet and good company . Thanks to all who contributed .

Events since March.

Dorice Kerr had an exhibition in Glasgow in July . Hope it was successful, Dorice.
Gillian Park was very successful in Open Art Studios this year.Well done.
Art exhibition in Crosshouse Hospital sold 4 paintings
by Carole Cotter, Margaret Currie ,Mary-rose Muir and Christine Anderson.
Gillian Park had a successful art class in Howard St Andrews hall . We all painted things we wouldn’t have dreamed of painting. All due to Gillian of course. And we all managed a finished painting at the end of the 8weeks!! Lots of laughter and enjoyment!

Gillian Park ,Margaret Skelton and Christine Anderson went to Pittenweem with Troon Art Club for the Art Festival. Sore feet and knees at end of the day but weather was kind and only one shower of rain. Great day out with lots of artists to see.

Enrolment night 7th September 2015 -Kilmarnock Academy

Enrolment night 7pm Kilmarnock Academy.
This is also a work night so bring your painting materials. There will be a model for portrait section. I hope also to set up a still life in one of the rooms as a trial to gauge members reaction to a weekly still life. Members will be on hand to help.

April 13th Evening Meal

Jefferson’s was chosen as the restaurant for our meal.
30 members attended. Super food and members liked the privacy of the room set aside for us. Thanks to Jefferson’s staff for lovely food and good service.
